Smithville is currently working on the Comprehensive Plan to get community input combined with expert analysis on what we need to do to move forward into the future. This Plan provides the community an opportunity to be deliberate in establishing policies that will ensure growth that will benefit all community members, and will help mitigate any unplanned development that may overwhelm the small town look, feel, and charm that so many residents wish to protect. Zoning ordinances provide the blueprint for development patterns, prescribing where and how residential, commercial/retail, and industrial uses may occur. The Future Land Use Chapter in the new Comprehensive Plan is a chance to identify where new development should occur and defines policies that may be adopted to ensure that community goals are met as development occurs.
The Community Forum on Land Use was held on Housing was held on Tuesday, September 24 from 6:00PM-7:30PM at City Hall. Watch the meeting recording on Youtube Channel.
Based on information from the Brief Survey that was distributed prior to that meeting, and the ideas generated at that meeting, a more in-depth survey was created. Please take the Post Meeting Land Use Survey to help us determine priorities and opportunities for the Smithville Comprehensive Plan.
