Smithville Proclaims March 29 Vietnam Veterans’ Day
SMITHVILLE – At Smithville’s Monday, March 9 city council meeting, mayor Scott Saunders declared March 29, 2020 as Vietnam Veterans’ Day by signing a proclamation presented by the Lost Pines Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). March 29 marks 47 years since the last U.S. troops departed Vietnam in 1973.
The Proclamation affirms a fundamental obligation “to show all who have worn the uniform of the United States the respect and dignity they deserve, and to honor their sacrifice by serving them as well as they served us.” It also pays tribute to “the fallen, the missing, the wounded, the millions who served [in Vietnam] and the millions more who awaited their return.”
City Manager, Robert Tamble, Smithville city council members, and DAR members were in attendance to witness DAR Regent, Janis Flanagan’s presentation of the proclamation and Saunders’ signing of the document.
