Smithville Crawford Municipal Airport Development Plan Approved
Back in 2014, the City of Smithville was awarded a $100k TXDOT Aviation grant to prepare a long-range development plan. KSA Engineering was the lead consultant that worked with the City to put together the airport development plan. Identification of fixed assets, base aircraft inventory, and growth demographics helped model future aviation use and demand. Adding taxi-ways, aprons, city-owned hangars, and fuel concession would improve functionality while producing an increased revenue stream. In addition, the Smithville Airport is being considered for a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) base for staging firefighting assets during fire season. The TXDOT Aviation Division recently approved the City’s airport development plan. This “pre-qualifies” the City to receive federal and state aviation funding for planned improvements. The Smithville Crawford Municipal Airport is the only airport in Bastrop County. Currently, the airport averages between 25-30 take-offs and landings per day with a projected 50% increase by 2020. More and more pilots are using our airport to shop, eat, and explore Smithville! Below is a link to the Airport Development Plan.
