The City of Smithville is currently seeking applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator.  Must have a Highschool diploma or GED, and Valid Texas Driver’s License; Class C. Must have knowledge and experience in heavy equipment, maintenance, and operations. Solid Waste Laborer

Uses city or rented equipment to pick up leaves, limbs and other vegetation that has been cut by citizens or city work crews. Operate vacuum leaf machine, wood chipper, and other small mechanical or hand tools either at curbside or at a storage location. Perform daily maintenance on all equipment.  Also performs related work as required. High School Diploma or GED, Texas Drivers License. Parks Laborer

Operate mowers, tractors, trencher, vehicles, and equipment; utilize a variety of hand and power tools in park landscape maintenance work. Perform semi-skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction, and repair of park and recreational facilities. Apply herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides safely; maintain records of fertilizers and chemicals used. Perform difficult manual labor including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending, and twisting. May assist in other sections of the department as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned. Electrical Apprentice

Performs routine repairs and maintenance in assigned craft; assist, as directed, in more complex maintenance and repair of transmission, power generation, and facilities equipment, using power and hand tools as necessary. Participates in training sessions to gain greater knowledge of craft or trade by learning the procedures, tools, use, and equipment operations. Maintains tools. Equipment and facilities used in the performance of the job duties. Performs other duties of a related nature, as assigned. Applicants must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Drivers’ License without a record of suspension or revocation in any state; ability to meet the Department’s physical standards. Formal application, education, and experience; offer of employment; psychological examination; drug screening. Position works on assigned shifts using own judgment in deciding course of action; is expected to handle difficult and emergency situations while patrolling the city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas.
