City of Smithville Sales Tax Update

Below are the sales tax allocations for July 2017 vs. July 2016 (retail sales made primarily in May).  This data reflects RETAIL sales of goods and services subject to LOCAL sales tax.  Our sales tax payment (receipt) for July was $43,363.  This represents a 27.14% INCREASE in our net payment compared to the same time last year.  Basically, consumers spent more money for local goods and services in April.  The Front Room, Honey’s Pizza, Olde World Bakery, Mexico Lindo, Midnight Monkey Mercantile, Coach Q’s, Donut Shop, Pockets, Huebel’s, and Bone Spirits seem to be attracting more and more hungry/thirsty patrons to our business district.  The local shops, grocers, C-stores, and lodging establishments have also seen an increase in business. The data indicates a positive trend (13.97% increase) year over year with Smithville leading the “municipal pack” achieving the highest percent change in Bastrop County.  Sales tax dollars are used to make street / road repairs and help pay for community services like FIRE and POLICE.  Total year-to-date payments are $326,625.  Remember…SHOP LOCAL - it makes a difference!!!
