City Council Tax Rate Public Hearings and Budget Workshops Held
Tax Rate Public Hearings and Budget Workshops were held on Wednesday, August 31st and Wednesday, September 7th at City Hall. Unfortunately, public participation was minimal with only 5 citizens in attendance despite multiple announcements communicating the meeting dates in the Smithville Times, Chamber Newsletter, Utility Bill, Facebook, and City website. Below you will find a copy of the material presented at each workshop. A review of City accomplishments, future plans, projects, tax rate, debt service, and overall financial position was provided for Council consideration and discussion. The PROPOSED AD VALOREM TAX RATE is 0.565987 cents --- an INCREASE of 0.01255 cents from our current rate of 0.553438 with a proposed budget of $10.9M ($700k less than last year’s budget). The City Council will make a final decision regarding the proposed tax rate and budget during the September 12, 2016 Council meeting. Public attendance is encouraged and welcomed.
