The City of Smithville is currently seeking applications for a Police Officer (Community Policing)
Smithville Police Department Officers will perform police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, crime prevention, and related enforcement activities. Knowledge of criminal, civil, juvenile and traffic laws and regulations; knowledge of City codes and ordinances; court systems and procedures; safety regulations applicable to motorized vehicles and equipment; and of radio communication; knowledge of routine vehicle and equipment maintenance. Skill and proficiency in the use of firearms, weapons, radio equipment, radar; skill in the use of a police vehicle in emergency and non-emergency situations. Must work shift work. (This assignment will be primarily Community Oriented work. Focusing on crime prevention, organizing neighborhood groups, crime watch association, hold classes and seminars to educate the public in personal property safety, working with SISD and child care centers in conducting classes, participate in public functions, and conduct crime prevention training and other duties as required.)
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age (at time of employment), currently have a valid Texas Peace Officer License, and have a valid Texas Driver’s License. Per TCOLE Administrative Rules, dishonorable discharge from the military is a disqualification. The Personal History Statement/application has a list of other disqualifiers. Electric Laborer/Helper: Assist Journey-level craft personnel in performance of routine repairs and maintenance of power lines, and associated work. Performs routine repairs and maintenance and assist in more complex maintenance and repair of the utility system. Applicants must have a High School diploma/GED and a valid Driver’s License and Class B Commercial License or able to obtain one within 6 months of hire. Candidates should be aware that this position requires successful applicants to work overtime, which include extended days, call-out for emergency work, and at time weekend and holiday work.
